NJC Mandates Reversal of Imo Acting Chief Judge Appointment.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has directed the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, to reverse the recent appointment of Justice Theophilus Nnamdi Nzeukwu as Acting Chief Judge. This decision, stemming from the NJC’s 108th meeting, mandates the appointment of the most senior judge in the state’s High Court, adhering to Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution.
Furthermore, Justice Nzeukwu has been issued a query, demanding he justify his acceptance of the appointment within seven days, potentially leading to disciplinary action. The NJC has also requested an explanation from V.U. Okorie, President of the Imo State Customary Court of Appeal, regarding his recommendation of Justice Nzeukwu.
In addition to this directive, the NJC has suspended three judicial officers, including Justice Jane E. Inyang of the Court of Appeal, along with Justices Inyang Ekwo and Aminu Baffa Aliyu of the Federal High Court, for varying periods and acts of judicial misconduct. These actions underscore the NJC’s commitment to upholding judicial integrity and accountability within the Nigerian judicial system.

Davido specifically noted the influx of American visitors to Lagos during the past December festive season, attributing it to the burgeoning entertainment scene and cultural appeal. His comments underscore a growing sentiment within the Nigerian creative sector, recognizing its power to shape international narratives and attract foreign interest.
