The Delta State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized 2.446497 tonnes of illicit drugs valued at approximately N2 billion between July 2025 and September 2026.
The state commander, Halilu Hamidu, disclosed this on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, during a briefing on the command’s activities. He said the seizures included cannabis, tramadol, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, codeine, diazepam, and other psychotropic substances.
The command also recovered 1,304.630 litres of liquid drug exhibits, including codeine and pentazocine injections. Major operations included the raid of a warehouse at Oko Market, Asaba, where drugs worth more than N150 million were discovered. Three trucks and two commercial buses carrying illicit substances were also intercepted.
According to Hamidu, 248 suspects were convicted during the period, while 223 cases remained pending before the courts. The agency additionally destroyed 35.2 hectares of cannabis farms across the state.
Beyond enforcement, the command counselled 693 drug-dependent persons, comprising 463 males and 230 females. Hamidu assured residents that the NDLEA would continue efforts to prevent Delta State from being used for the storage, cultivation, distribution, or transportation of illicit drugs.
