He was abducted on July 22, 2025, during an ambush along the Manyaci–Bukkuyum road, in which the local PDP Chairman, Hon. Muhammad Sala Wuta, was shot and injured.
The kidnappers initially demanded ₦30 million for Gwashi’s release. After prolonged negotiations, his family and community members managed to raise ₦15 million, which was delivered to the abductors.
In a cruel betrayal, the bandits collected the ransom but refused to release him, insisting on payment of the remaining balance. Gwashi was later killed in captivity, despite the family’s desperate efforts to secure his freedom.
Reports also confirm that at least five women were abducted in a separate but related incident in the same area, further illustrating the widespread reach of criminal networks in Zamfara.
