The results of the 56th edition of this prestigious award ceremony were unveiled over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Wizkid garnered accolades in the ‘Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration’ category for his enchanting collaboration with Brent Faiyaz. This victory marks a significant milestone, as it is Wizkid’s sixth win at the NAACP Image Awards, cementing his status as the most awarded Nigerian artist in the history of the event.
Conversely, Davido earned the award for ‘Outstanding International Song’ for his impressive collaboration with American artist Chris Brown. These accolades underscore the growing influence of Nigerian musicians on the international stage.
While other prominent stars such as Tems and Burna Boy were nominated, they were not successful in their respective categories this year. The NAACP Image Awards, organized by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, aims to celebrate outstanding achievements in the arts and media, and this year’s recognition of Wizkid and Davido is a testament to their artistry and influence.

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has reportedly gifted fellow artist Portable N20 million following the latter’s victory over Speed Darlington in a recent celebrity boxing match. The “Chaos in the Rings” event saw Portable declared the winner after Speed Darlington sustained an arm injury during the first round and subsequently forfeited the second.
Portable announced the substantial gift on his Instagram story, directly attributing it to Burna Boy, who has publicly feuded with Speed Darlington in the past. The gesture suggests a pointed celebration of Portable’s triumph and underscores the ongoing rivalry within the Nigerian music scene.
Nigerian musician Portable emerged victorious in the highly anticipated celebrity boxing match against Speed Darlington, held Saturday night at the Balmoral Events Centre in Lagos. The event, dubbed ‘Chaos in the Rings,’ saw an abrupt conclusion when Speed Darlington was unable to continue after sustaining a broken arm during the first round.
The match, fueled by a prior dispute over a N500,000 performance fee offered to Portable by Darlington, ended in Portable’s favor as his opponent failed to appear for the second round. This win marks Portable’s second celebrity boxing victory, following his previous triumph against actor Charles Okocha four months prior. The outcome has generated significant discussion and interest within the Nigerian entertainment scene.
