Tragic Misfire: Nigerian Military Airstrikes Claim Innocent Lives in Katsina State.

Published

on

In a devastating turn of events, military airstrikes aimed at neutralizing bandit threats in the Yauni community of Zakka Ward, Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State, resulted in the tragic loss of at least six innocent lives. The victims, predominantly from a single family, included three children, a man, and two women, leaving the community in profound shock and mourning.

This incident unfolded shortly after the local government elections in the state, during which security forces, including the police and members of the State Community Watch Corps (CWC), engaged in a fierce confrontation with bandits allegedly planning to attack voters in Zakka village. Eyewitness accounts reveal that the exchange of gunfire was intense, resulting in the deaths of two police officers and a CWC operative.

As of the latest updates, neither military nor government authorities have issued a statement regarding this tragic occurrence. This incident is not isolated; it follows a disturbing pattern of collateral damage in military operations. In July 2022, a military fighter jet mistakenly bombed Kunkunni village in the same local government area, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. More recently, in early 2025, an airstrike in Zamfara mistakenly killed 16 people, including local vigilantes and residents.

The recurring nature of such tragedies raises critical questions about operational protocols and the imperative need for measures to prevent civilian casualties in military engagements. The loss of innocent lives underscores the urgent necessity for a comprehensive review of military strategies in combating banditry and ensuring the protection of vulnerable communities.

Gospel Singer Mercy Chinwo Sues Influencer VeryDarkMan for Defamation.

Popular gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has initiated legal proceedings against social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), alleging defamation. The lawsuit, filed on March 3rd, stems from statements VDM made on social media in February, accusing Chinwo of breaching her contract with her former record label, EeZee Tee.

Chinwo claims VDM’s comments, accusing her of diverting funds and violating contractual agreements, are false and damaging to her reputation. Her legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi, argues that VDM, despite lacking direct involvement in the matter, intentionally presented the issue in a way that tarnished the singer’s image.

The lawsuit seeks a court order for VDM to remove the allegedly defamatory posts, issue a retraction and apology across his social media platforms and in national newspapers, and pay ₦1.125 billion in damages and legal fees. This action follows previous accusations by Chinwo against EeZee Tee, citing exploitation and threats. The legal battle underscores the growing intersection of online commentary and legal accountability within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
