A devastating auto accident on Sunday along the Lokoja–Obajana Road in Kogi State has resulted in the confirmed deaths of at least 19 individuals, including five children. The collision also left eight others injured.

Mr. Kumar Tsukwam, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi State, attributed the crash to speeding and reckless overtaking. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. in the Gadabiu community of Lokoja Local Government Area, involving a Toyota bus traveling towards Abuja and an articulated truck.

Preliminary reports indicate that the bus driver, reportedly speeding, attempted to overtake another vehicle, leading to a head-on collision with the oncoming truck. Among the deceased were five children who were tragically burned beyond recognition.

Emergency responders, including the FRSC and police personnel, promptly arrived at the scene to evacuate the injured to Fisayo Hospital in Obajana for urgent medical attention.

Mr. Tsukwam reiterated the critical importance of responsible driving and adherence to traffic regulations, emphasizing that “highways are not race tracks.” The FRSC has pledged a comprehensive investigation into the incident and is currently working to identify the victims and notify their families.
