Yobe State University is in mourning following a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a 100-level Education Biology student, Amina Yakubu. The incident occurred on Gujba Road, near the university gate, at approximately 5:30 pm on August 23, 2025.
A vehicle collided with a Keke Napep (tricycle) carrying Amina and four other passengers. Amina Yakubu tragically lost her life, while the other four occupants, including a university matron, sustained injuries.
The university community is deeply saddened by the loss. Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bukar Jamri has expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased, describing Amina as a promising young woman from Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State.
University management is collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure the injured students receive the best possible medical care. The university has reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of its students, emphasizing that this tragic event has deeply shaken the entire community.
Amina Yakubu has been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic tradition. The university community prays for her soul to rest in Jannatul Firdaus and offers support to her grieving family.
