In a significant development, the video-sharing platform TikTok has resumed its operations in the United States after President-elect Donald Trump indicated his intention to reinstate access to the app upon his return to power. During an interview with NBC, Trump suggested that he might grant TikTok an additional 90 days to negotiate a deal that would circumvent a potential ban in the U.S.

This restoration comes on the heels of a tumultuous weekend, during which TikTok ceased functioning in the U.S. late Saturday night, leading to its removal from both Apple and Google app stores. This abrupt disappearance was linked to the imminent enforcement of a law set to take effect on Sunday, mandating the shutdown of the app.

By Sunday evening, reports emerged from some U.S. users who were able to access TikTok’s website, while the app itself began reappearing for certain users, albeit with limited functionality. In response to the situation, TikTok issued a statement confirming, “In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service.” The company further expressed its appreciation to Trump for “providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties for providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.”

As the situation continues to evolve, the implications for TikTok’s future in the U.S. remain uncertain, yet the recent developments highlight the platform’s resilience and the complexities surrounding its regulatory environment.
