Three commuters have been confirmed dead in a road accident that occurred on Wednesday night at the Sango-Ota tollgate along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Reports indicate that a Scania truck loaded with wood, bearing number plate GGE 681 XD, was descending the Dalemo slope toward the tollgate area from Sango, inbound Lagos, when it suffered brake failure.

The truck crushed three commuters waiting at the bus stop before colliding with another empty truck registered as SMK 795 YF.

TRACE Confirms Incident

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE)Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred around 9:05 p.m.

He said the rescue team at the scene comprised TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Police.

Victims and Aftermath

According to TRACE, the victims were two males and one female, and their remains have been deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.

Akinbiyi added that vehicular traffic was initially disrupted, but normalcy was restored after the evacuation of the wreckage by TRACE operatives.

Safety Advisory

The TRACE spokesperson commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged owners and drivers of articulated vehicles to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained before embarking on any journey.

He emphasized that mechanical negligence remains a major cause of fatal road accidents across the state.
