In a recent development, the House of Representatives has instructed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command to suspend the enforcement of the ban on tinted glass vehicles in Abuja. This directive comes in response to growing concerns regarding the implementation of the ban, which has reportedly led to the harassment of motorists and the impounding of vehicles.

The House has granted a 90-day grace period during which the police will refrain from enforcing the ban, allowing for a comprehensive public enlightenment campaign aimed at educating citizens about the regulations. This initiative, backed by the House’s resolution, is expected to mitigate the challenges faced by vehicle owners and ensure that they are adequately informed about the necessary permits and modifications required for compliance.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance presented by Representative Mukhtar Tolani Shagaya, who highlighted that the intent behind the ban was to combat rising criminal activities, including kidnapping. However, he emphasized that the lack of awareness and insufficient time for compliance have resulted in significant hardship for families and businesses in the capital.

Additionally, the House has mandated the Committee on Police Affairs to engage with the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to establish clear enforcement guidelines for such directives in the future. This step aims to prevent similar issues from arising and to ensure that law enforcement practices are both effective and fair.

As the situation unfolds, the collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture and relevant stakeholders will be crucial in launching the public awareness campaign, ultimately fostering a better understanding of the regulations among the populace.

Nollywood actress Mary Njoku has recently ignited a debate regarding the necessity of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination for university admissions in Nigeria. In a statement posted on her Instagram story, Njoku questioned the need for JAMB and post-UTME, arguing that the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) should be sufficient proof of a candidate’s completion of secondary education.

Her statement comes amidst recent controversy surrounding JAMB, particularly following widespread reports of mass failures in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME). While JAMB has admitted to errors and announced retakes for affected candidates, Njoku’s questioning highlights a deeper concern regarding the redundancy and potential inefficiencies within the current university admission process. The actress’s comments add fuel to an existing debate about the effectiveness and fairness of the JAMB examination in evaluating a student’s readiness for tertiary education.
