The EFCC’s Response to the Murder of Officer Aminu Sahabi Salisu.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a strong condemnation regarding the narratives surrounding the tragic murder of its officer, ASE II Aminu Sahabi Salisu, by a suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, in Awka, Anambra State. In a statement released by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the Commission expressed its dismay at the attempts by some commentators to rationalize this heinous act.
The EFCC emphasized that there is no justification for the cold-blooded murder of an officer who was diligently performing his official duties. The statement highlighted the irresponsible and callous nature of the narratives circulating on social media, which seek to undermine the gravity of the situation. The Commission firmly asserted that it will not tolerate further attacks on its officers and that such acts will be met with the full force of the law.
Officer Salisu was engaged in an operation to arrest suspected internet fraudsters when he was tragically shot and killed by Ikechukwu, who had been alerted to the investigators’ presence via a CCTV camera. The EFCC reported that the operation initially went smoothly, resulting in the arrest of 37 suspects before the situation escalated to violence. Preliminary investigations indicate that Ikechukwu was involved in dubious online activities, and he is currently in police custody pending trial.
The EFCC also warned the public about the increasing dangers posed by internet fraudsters, who are now reportedly armed and involved in serious crimes such as kidnapping and ritual killings. This alarming trend underscores the need for a collective effort to combat these threats to public safety.
As the EFCC mourns the loss of Officer Salisu, it appreciates the support and condolences received from various agencies and individuals during this difficult time. The Commission remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating internet fraud and ensuring the safety of its officers as they carry out their vital responsibilities.

Gospel Singer Mercy Chinwo Sues Influencer VeryDarkMan for Defamation.

Popular gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has initiated legal proceedings against social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), alleging defamation. The lawsuit, filed on March 3rd, stems from statements VDM made on social media in February, accusing Chinwo of breaching her contract with her former record label, EeZee Tee.
Chinwo claims VDM’s comments, accusing her of diverting funds and violating contractual agreements, are false and damaging to her reputation. Her legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi, argues that VDM, despite lacking direct involvement in the matter, intentionally presented the issue in a way that tarnished the singer’s image.
The lawsuit seeks a court order for VDM to remove the allegedly defamatory posts, issue a retraction and apology across his social media platforms and in national newspapers, and pay ₦1.125 billion in damages and legal fees. This action follows previous accusations by Chinwo against EeZee Tee, citing exploitation and threats. The legal battle underscores the growing intersection of online commentary and legal accountability within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
