A fresh wave of debate has emerged in Kano State as Sanusi Sa’id Kiru, Director of Training and Programmes at the Progressive Institute and former Commissioner of Education, called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to exercise restraint regarding public statements on the ongoing N6.5 billion corruption investigation linked to the Protocol Directorate of Government House.
In a statement from Kano, Kiru emphasized the importance of allowing the judiciary to independently handle the matter, cautioning against any interference or premature dismissal of the allegations. He argued that the governor’s recent public rejection of the claims could undermine public trust and the credibility of the administration’s commitment to transparency.
Kiru highlighted that true leadership is demonstrated by upholding the rule of law and showing confidence in the judicial process. He warned that dismissing the allegations outright, especially while litigation is ongoing, may be perceived as an attempt to deflect scrutiny and could further erode public confidence.
Drawing on Governor Yusuf’s own history of benefiting from judicial decisions in political matters, Kiru urged the administration to let the courts determine the outcome without external influence. He stressed that patience and respect for due process are essential for maintaining integrity and public trust in governance.
As the legal proceedings continue, all eyes remain on the Kano State government’s response and its willingness to support a transparent and impartial investigation.
