Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the newly appointed sole administrator of Rivers State, has addressed residents, emphasizing the apolitical nature of his role and his commitment to restoring governance and stability following the declaration of a state of emergency.

In a recent broadcast, Admiral Ibas underscored his dedication to safeguarding civil liberties and ensuring citizen safety, while simultaneously issuing a stern warning against crude oil sabotage and violence. He acknowledged the detrimental impact of the prolonged political crisis on the state’s economy and the well-being of its citizens.

Admiral Ibas lauded President Tinubu’s decisive action in declaring the state of emergency, viewing it as a necessary measure to reinstate order and stimulate economic activity. He assured adherence to the rule of law but cautioned against lawlessness and violence.

He emphasized the need for collective support from all stakeholders, irrespective of political affiliation, to achieve his mandate of restoring law and order and fostering an environment conducive to economic growth. On Wednesday, District Court Judge Dale Ho dismissed, with prejudice, the federal criminal case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. This action effectively terminates the possibility of the Department of Justice (DOJ) resurrecting the five-count indictment against the Democrat in the US District Court in Manhattan.

The dismissal follows a controversial request by the Trump administration, nearly two months prior, to drop the corruption charges. The DOJ argued that prosecution would impede Mayor Adams’ ability to govern New York City and collaborate with the administration’s immigration enforcement policies.

The request prompted significant internal dissent, culminating in the resignation of seven federal prosecutors, including the acting Manhattan US attorney. Their departure underscores the contentious nature of the decision to seek dismissal and the ethical questions it raised within the Department. The “with prejudice” ruling solidifies the finality of this complex and closely watched legal battle.
