Progress in Ondo State Governorship Election: A Glimpse into the Results and Challenges.

In a notable development from Saturday’s Ondo State governorship election, over 90% of polling unit results have been successfully uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing (IReV) portal. The latest update, recorded at precisely 6:18 p.m., reflects significant advancements in the collation process, underscoring the commission’s commitment to transparency.
The key candidates vying for the governorship include Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party. As the electoral landscape unfolds, the focus remains on the integrity of the voting process and the outcomes of this pivotal election.
Nevertheless, the electoral proceedings were not without their challenges. Miss Angela Oshogwe, the Presiding Officer at Polling Unit 19 in Ward 11 of Olamojuba, reported technical difficulties with the Bio-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). She noted that the machine encountered issues capturing the images of some elderly voters, a situation that prompted her to reach out to relevant authorities for assistance.
“There is the possibility of the BVAS functioning before the close of voting,” Oshogwe indicated, maintaining optimism for a timely resolution.
In response to these challenges, Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, acknowledged the situation but reassured the public that it affected “very limited” polling units.
As the collation of votes proceeds across Ondo State, stakeholders and citizens are closely monitoring INEC’s efforts to uphold an inclusive and transparent electoral process. The path forward will undoubtedly shape the future of governance in the region.

Princess Opeyemi Bright Inaugurated as Youngest UK Mayor.

On Friday, May 16, 2025, Princess Opeyemi Bright was sworn in as the youngest Mayor in the United Kingdom, assuming the prestigious title of First Citizen of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham at the age of 29.
Born in the UK to Nigerian parents, Princess Bright’s election has been widely lauded as a testament to diversity, youth empowerment, and the increasing global impact of the Nigerian diaspora. Nollywood Actress Questions JAMB’s Relevance in University Admissions.

Nollywood actress Mary Njoku has recently ignited a debate regarding the necessity of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination for university admissions in Nigeria. In a statement posted on her Instagram story, Njoku questioned the need for JAMB and post-UTME, arguing that the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) should be sufficient proof of a candidate’s completion of secondary education.
Her statement comes amidst recent controversy surrounding JAMB, particularly following widespread reports of mass failures in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME). While JAMB has admitted to errors and announced retakes for affected candidates, Njoku’s questioning highlights a deeper concern regarding the redundancy and potential inefficiencies within the current university admission process. The actress’s comments add fuel to an existing debate about the effectiveness and fairness of the JAMB examination in evaluating a student’s readiness for tertiary education.
