President Tinubu to Visit Katsina State Friday.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to conduct a one-day working visit to Katsina State this Friday, announced State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Bala Salisu-Zango. This marks the President’s inaugural visit to the state since assuming office in 2023.

During the visit, President Tinubu will inaugurate two significant infrastructure projects recently completed under Governor Dikko Radda’s administration. These include the Eastern Bypass, a vital arterial road connecting Dutsin-ma, Kano, and Daura Roads, concluding at Yandaki in Kaita Local Government Area. Furthermore, the President will commission the State Agricultural Mechanization Centre, a project designed to bolster agricultural productivity within the state.

Beyond the inauguration of these projects, the visit presents an opportunity for the state government to engage President Tinubu on crucial issues, notably security concerns affecting Katsina. Residents are encouraged to welcome the President en masse and to maintain law and order throughout the duration of his visit.

NJC Mandates Reversal of Imo Acting Chief Judge Appointment.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has directed the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, to reverse the recent appointment of Justice Theophilus Nnamdi Nzeukwu as Acting Chief Judge. This decision, stemming from the NJC’s 108th meeting, mandates the appointment of the most senior judge in the state’s High Court, adhering to Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution.

Furthermore, Justice Nzeukwu has been issued a query, demanding he justify his acceptance of the appointment within seven days, potentially leading to disciplinary action. The NJC has also requested an explanation from V.U. Okorie, President of the Imo State Customary Court of Appeal, regarding his recommendation of Justice Nzeukwu.

In addition to this directive, the NJC has suspended three judicial officers, including Justice Jane E. Inyang of the Court of Appeal, along with Justices Inyang Ekwo and Aminu Baffa Aliyu of the Federal High Court, for varying periods and acts of judicial misconduct. These actions underscore the NJC’s commitment to upholding judicial integrity and accountability within the Nigerian judicial system.

NIJ Announces 7th Convocation Ceremony.

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos, has announced its 7th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 2025. A total of 707 students across various diploma programmes will graduate, with an impressive 60 students receiving Distinction certificates.

According to Provost Gbenga Adefaye, the convocation lecture, titled “AI and Public Governance,” will be delivered by Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adeniyi, on Monday, May 5, 2025. The lecture promises to attract a diverse audience of scholars, public servants, and media professionals.

The event will be chaired by veteran journalist and Chairman of the NIJ Governing Council, Aremo Olusegun Osoba. Mr. Adefaye highlighted the institute’s commitment to quality media education despite challenges related to funding and declining admission rates, emphasizing the importance of embracing technology and maintaining academic integrity in the age of Artificial Intelligence.
