On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu commended former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, for his courageous and patriotic admission that the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola won the June 12, 1993 election. This acknowledgment was made during the launch of Babangida’s autobiography, *A Journey in Service*, alongside a fundraising initiative for the IBB Presidential Library Project.

In a significant moment for Nigeria’s democratic narrative, General Babangida confirmed that Abiola’s victory was based on the collated results of that historic election. The annulment of the election remains a pivotal event in Nigeria’s political history, leading to widespread unrest and ultimately contributing to Babangida’s departure from power.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude for Babangida’s revelation, stating, “I am glad about the revelation of June 12. My General, we will not forget to pray for you.” He emphasized the importance of acknowledging the past to pave the way for a more informed future.

Furthermore, President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to making difficult decisions aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy. He called on citizens to focus their efforts on nation-building and to remain aware of global migration trends that may affect their aspirations for a better life.

In his remarks, Tinubu highlighted the necessity of fostering a better environment in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, urging citizens to unite in their efforts to enhance their homeland. He concluded by thanking General Babangida for his contributions to the nation’s history and for providing clarity on a matter that has long been debated.

This event not only marks a significant acknowledgment of past political events but also serves as a call to action for Nigerians to work collaboratively towards a brighter future.

Gospel Singer Mercy Chinwo Sues Influencer VeryDarkMan for Defamation.

Popular gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has initiated legal proceedings against social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), alleging defamation. The lawsuit, filed on March 3rd, stems from statements VDM made on social media in February, accusing Chinwo of breaching her contract with her former record label, EeZee Tee.

Chinwo claims VDM’s comments, accusing her of diverting funds and violating contractual agreements, are false and damaging to her reputation. Her legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi, argues that VDM, despite lacking direct involvement in the matter, intentionally presented the issue in a way that tarnished the singer’s image.

The lawsuit seeks a court order for VDM to remove the allegedly defamatory posts, issue a retraction and apology across his social media platforms and in national newspapers, and pay ₦1.125 billion in damages and legal fees. This action follows previous accusations by Chinwo against EeZee Tee, citing exploitation and threats. The legal battle underscores the growing intersection of online commentary and legal accountability within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
