Police arrest two suspects for the mob killing of corps member Benjamin Msughaondo in Buruku, Benue State, over a false motorcycle theft allegation.

The Benue State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Mr Benjamin Msughaondo, who was allegedly lynched by a mob over a false motorcycle theft allegation.

The incident occurred late Sunday night around the Major settlement area, near the Buruku Local Government Secretariat.

Police Confirm Arrests

Confirming the development on Friday in Makurdi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edet Udeme, said the corps member was falsely accused by some individuals of stealing a motorcycle before being beaten to death without any verification.

Investigation Reveals Victim Owned The Motorcycle

According to Udeme, initial investigations revealed that the allegation against the victim was untrue, as documents recovered confirmed that Msughaondo was the legitimate owner of the motorcycle.

She added that while two suspects have been taken into custody, one other suspect remains at large, with efforts ongoing to track him down.

Police Vow To Ensure Justice

The command condemned the mob action, describing it as unlawful and avoidable, and reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law.

Authorities urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that suspected crimes must be reported to law enforcement agencies for proper investigation.
