Quick Summary:
Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi says he is unfazed by President Bola Tinubu’s alliance with governors, insisting that he can still win without their support in the 2027 elections.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said it does not matter if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the support of all 36 state governors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a recent interview in Washington DC, Obi maintained that he had no governor backing him during the 2023 presidential election, yet he won in 12 states.
“Abuja Is Now A State”
Obi also referenced the Supreme Court judgment on the 2023 election, which he said effectively made Abuja a state in the electoral context.
He further claimed that Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) won one state — Kano, while the APC, PDP, and Labour Party each won 12 states.
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, came third after polling 6,101,533 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He has since joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and is expected to be one of the major contenders in the 2027 presidential race.
