In a significant victory against organized crime, the Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended Mohammed Bammi, also known as Zomo, a notorious figure linked to numerous kidnapping and armed robbery incidents in the region. The arrest occurred during a targeted clearance operation in Doka Forest, Doma Local Government Area, marking the culmination of an intensive manhunt.
Police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel confirmed that Zomo, who had previously evaded capture, attempted to resist arrest but was quickly subdued by law enforcement. A subsequent search of the gang’s hideout in Alagye village yielded a cache of weapons, ammunition, and even security uniforms, underscoring the sophistication of the criminal enterprise.
The recovered items included a pump-action rifle, a locally-made AK-47 rifle, ammunition, a knife, rope, Tecno handsets, and a pair of NSCDC uniforms.
In a separate but related operation, police raided Gidan Taku village in Awe Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of five additional suspects believed to be part of a 10-member kidnapping syndicate. These individuals are allegedly connected to the abduction of Blessing John and were also implicated in the previous kidnapping of her husband, John Ada Kuje, in April 2024. Two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and live ammunition were recovered during this operation.
All suspects have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Shetima Mohammed lauded the officers involved in the operations and called for sustained efforts to eradicate kidnapping and armed robbery in Nasarawa State. This series of arrests represents a major step forward in ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents.
