IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu dismisses his legal team, including lead counsel Kanu Agabi, and tells the court he will represent himself while challenging its jurisdiction.

NnamdiKanuCourtUpdate emerged on Thursday as Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), dismissed his legal representatives and announced that he would represent himself in court.

According to reports, Kanu’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), formally applied to withdraw from representing the IPOB leader, stating that the defendant had taken the case back from his legal team.

Senior Advocates Withdraw from Case

All the Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on Kanu’s defense team have also withdrawn from the suit, a development that Kanu personally confirmed in court.

When asked by the presiding judge whether he would like the court to assign him a new lawyer, Kanu declined the offer, saying he would handle his defense for the time being, though he noted that the arrangement might change later.

Kanu Challenges Court’s Jurisdiction

Defending himself orally, Kanu argued that the court lacks jurisdiction to try him, maintaining his long-standing position that his detention and trial are unlawful.

The development marks a significant twist in the ongoing legal battle between the IPOB leader and the Federal Government of Nigeria, which has spanned several years and drawn both national and international attention.

Further details on the proceedings are expected as the case continues.
