In a landmark move towards fiscal reform, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assented to four key tax reform bills, heralding the transition of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) into the Nigeria Revenue Service. The enacted legislation includes the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill.

President Tinubu has stated that these reforms are designed to provide substantial tax relief for low-income earners, small businesses, and families, marking a pro-people approach to economic policy. The President anticipates that these changes will usher in a new era of economic prosperity for the nation.

The implementation of these tax reform bills is scheduled to commence on January 1, 2026.
