Government-Backed Initiative for Cleaner Energy
The Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) has announced plans to establish a government-backed Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in collaboration with the Bank of Industry (BOI), Endurance Group, and Séquor Investment Partners.
Speaking after a meeting in Abuja, Oluwole Adama, Executive Director of MDGIF, said the partnership aims to accelerate Nigeria’s transition to cleaner fuels by addressing infrastructure gaps across the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) value chain.
Under the agreement, the partners will create the Compressed Natural Gas Auto Mobility Infrastructure Company (CAM InfraCo) to deploy 500 integrated CNG refuelling stations, develop LCNG gas supply infrastructure, and provide CNG and LNG transportation trucks equipped with truck-mounted cascades to form a virtual gas pipeline across all states.
Expanding Access and Reducing Queues
Adama explained that the project will help ease long queues at existing CNG filling stations by expanding access to refuelling points and ensuring consistent supply through improved logistics and distribution systems.
He emphasized that the initiative represents a major step toward energy diversification, infrastructure modernization, and economic sustainability in Nigeria’s gas sector.
Presidential Vision for Energy Security
Oluwatoyin Subair, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties and Domestic Affairs, said the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of achieving energy security by deepening the use of auto CNG and reducing dependence on petrol (PMS) and diesel (AGO), particularly in the transportation sector.
Subair added that the initiative supports the administration’s broader economic reforms, promoting cleaner, more affordable energy alternatives while creating new employment opportunities within the domestic gas value chain.
Private Sector Commitment
Eric Lin, Chief Executive Officer of Endurance Group, explained that the SPV’s objective is to establish a nationwide CNG refuelling, maintenance, and logistics ecosystem.
He said CAM InfraCo will lease CNG-related equipment to certified operators and ensure a reliable gas supply through a world-class virtual pipeline network.
The company’s leasing and logistics strategy is designed to create a commercially viable and resilient national CNG refuelling network, delivering gas from strategically located mother stations into underserved northern corridors and rapidly growing southern clusters.
By leveraging existing hubs and planned infrastructure, CAM InfraCo aims to ensure sustainable and cost-effective market expansion across Nigeria.
