Quick Summary:
NDLEA operatives bust a Lagos-based syndicate using imported Christmas cookies and snacks to traffic “Canadian Loud” cannabis, seizing drugs and deceptive packaging materials.

Festive Cheer Overshadowed by Criminal Ingenuity

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a sophisticated drug distribution network operating in Lagos, which disguised illicit substances as imported Christmas cookies and snacks.

The operation, executed during the festive season, underscores the evolving tactics of criminal syndicates seeking to exploit public trust and seasonal commerce.

A Digital Network, A Physical Bust

Investigations revealed that the syndicate operated primarily through a dedicated WhatsApp platform, coordinating the sale and distribution of a potent strain of cannabis known as “Canadian Loud.”

The drugs were repackaged into colorful designer sachets mimicking popular snack brands to evade detection.

Acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives raided an apartment on Ojulari Street, Lekki, leading to the arrest of two alleged masterminds — Deji Adesanya and Olubiyi Majekodunmi.

The Seizures

During the operation, NDLEA officers recovered:

  • 5 kilograms of Canadian Loud cannabis
  • Large quantities of deceptive designer packaging materials

In a related operation, the agency also intercepted:

  • 100 grams of “Loud” cannabis concealed in a teddy bear imported from Thailand
  • Tramadol capsules hidden inside vitamin bottles destined for the United Kingdom

These seizures highlight the global dimensions of drug trafficking and the creative concealment methods employed by cartels.

Commendation for Vigilance

NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the operatives for their precision and vigilance, noting that the operation reflects the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug cartels and protecting communities from harmful substances.

He reiterated that the NDLEA’s intelligence-led operations are part of a broader strategy to disrupt supply chains and curb the spread of narcotics across Nigeria.

Public Awareness and Ongoing Campaigns

The agency urged the public to exercise caution when purchasing consumable goods, especially those marketed online or sold through unverified channels.

This incident serves as a critical reminder of the need for vigilance, particularly during festive periods when criminal networks exploit consumer trust.

The NDLEA continues to expand its “War Against Drug Abuse” (WADA) sensitisation campaigns, engaging communities nationwide to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.
