The disclosure was made by the Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Ofoyeju, in a statement issued on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in Benin City, while presenting the Command’s monthly performance report.
Arrests Across Ekpoma And Auchi
According to Ofoyeju, the suspects were apprehended in Ekpoma (Esan West LGA) and Auchi (Etsako West LGA), two major drug hotspots in the state.
He identified some of the suspects arrested in Ekpoma as Lucky Omen, Joseph Osin, Prince Aniete, and Esther Okes (female), while those arrested in Auchi included Abdulmalik Sunday and Abayomi Precious.
The commander revealed that the arrests comprised 25 males and 22 females, all nabbed during intelligence-led operations at various drug flashpoints across the state.
Breakdown Of Seized Substances
Ofoyeju said the total haul included 540.6253 kilograms of Cannabis sativa, 0.2701 kilograms of psychotropic substances such as tramadol, Swinol, diazepam, and Rohypnol, 0.1415 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 1.4 litres of codeine syrup.
He added that in a similar operation in Auchi, officers arrested Abdulmalik Sunday (30) and Abayomi Precious (29).
Legal Actions And Rehabilitation Efforts
The NDLEA commander disclosed that the Command’s legal unit recorded three convictions during the period, while five new cases were filed and 94 cases remain pending before the Federal High Court in Benin City.
In the area of drug demand reduction, the Command counselled 31 clients — 24 males and 7 females — all of whom have been released to their families, while eight others are currently undergoing rehabilitation.
Ofoyeju confirmed that investigations are ongoing into the cases of the arrested suspects, who will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
