NCC Announces New Tariff Plan to Enhance Consumer Experience.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially announced a new tariff plan set to take effect on December 13, 2024. This initiative aims to simplify the telecommunications offerings for consumers, thereby alleviating confusion surrounding data and airtime usage.
Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, made this announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on November 28, 2024. The unveiling of the new tariff plans was initially scheduled for October 27 but was subsequently postponed to ensure comprehensive preparation.
One of the key features of the new tariff plan is the limitation imposed on telecom operators, restricting them to a maximum of seven tariff plans. This move is designed to streamline the options available to consumers, making it easier for them to make informed choices.
In addressing concerns related to rapid data depletion, the NCC has clarified that the responsibility does not lie with telecom operators. Instead, the type of mobile device used plays a significant role in data consumption patterns. To further assist consumers, the NCC is launching awareness campaigns aimed at educating the public on how to select devices that best meet their needs.
Through these measures, the NCC is committed to fostering a more transparent and consumer-friendly telecommunications market in Nigeria, ultimately enhancing the overall experience for telecom users across the nation.

Case Dismissed: Federal Charges Against Mayor Adams Dropped.

On Wednesday, District Court Judge Dale Ho dismissed, with prejudice, the federal criminal case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. This action effectively terminates the possibility of the Department of Justice (DOJ) resurrecting the five-count indictment against the Democrat in the US District Court in Manhattan.
The dismissal follows a controversial request by the Trump administration, nearly two months prior, to drop the corruption charges. The DOJ argued that prosecution would impede Mayor Adams’ ability to govern New York City and collaborate with the administration’s immigration enforcement policies.
The request prompted significant internal dissent, culminating in the resignation of seven federal prosecutors, including the acting Manhattan US attorney. Their departure underscores the contentious nature of the decision to seek dismissal and the ethical questions it raised within the Department. The “with prejudice” ruling solidifies the finality of this complex and closely watched legal battle.
