Popular Afrobeat artist, Davido, has added his voice to the growing online demand for the release of VeryDarkMan, a prominent social media critic currently detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Reports indicate VeryDarkMan’s arrest occurred on Friday, following an announcement regarding a planned visit to a GTBank branch in Abuja to address an alleged discrepancy in his mother’s account. While the exact location of the arrest remains unclear, the incident has ignited widespread online discussion.

Davido, leveraging his considerable social media platform on X, has explicitly called for VeryDarkMan’s release. His statement, acknowledging the support for the detained critic, also underscores the impact of positive contributions to the public good. Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) has officially announced the audition dates for its highly anticipated tenth season. Aspiring contestants can register online from May 3rd to May 7th, 2025, for a chance to participate in the reality television phenomenon.

On Friday, reports surfaced regarding the arrest of Martins Vincent Otse, the social media influencer known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), by the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja. The arrest, confirmed by his lawyer Denise Adeyanju via X (formerly Twitter), occurred at a branch of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).

Mr. Adeyanju stated he spoke with authorities prior to the arrest and characterized the action as “absolutely unacceptable,” adding, “Demanding accountability is not a crime.” He further indicated that VDM was arrested alongside a friend, identified as C Park.
