NANS Joint Campus Council, Ondo State, to hold a peaceful protest at AAUA over recurring truck accidents on the Owo–Akungba–Ikare road, demanding safety and accountability.

NANSOndoProtest is set to take place today as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council, Ondo State Axis, announced a peaceful demonstration to protest the recurring truck accidents around the entrance of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

The protest follows a recent fatal crash in which a truck reportedly lost control and rammed into roadside shops along the Owo–Akungba–Ikare road, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries.

Students Demand Action Over Recurring Tragedies

In a statement jointly signed by NANS JCC Chairman, Adekanye Mayomi Adeboye, and Public Relations Officer, Johnpaul Alabi, the student body said the protest aims to draw government attention to the frequent accidents that have claimed several lives in the area.

“The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council, Ondo State Axis, led by Comrade Adekanye Mayomi Adeboye, hereby announces a peaceful demonstration scheduled to hold today, Thursday, 23rd October 2025, at AAUA Main Gate, Akungba-Akoko, by 11:00 a.m. prompt,” the statement read.

Call for Accountability and Safety Measures

According to the statement, the protest seeks to address the persistent menace of heavy-duty trucks plying the Ikare–Akungba road, which has repeatedly led to tragic accidents involving students and residents.

The students demanded that those responsible for dismantling road barricades and collecting illegal fees from truck drivers be identified and prosecuted.

They also called for the immediate restoration and permanent reinforcement of the barricade to ensure the total restriction of long and heavy trucks along the route.

Students Prioritize Safety and Justice

“The safety and lives of our students remain a top priority and non-negotiable,” the statement emphasized.

NANS JCC urged the Ondo State Government, security agencies, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders to support their call for a lasting solution to the recurring road tragedies.

“Enough is enough. The lives of our students must be protected,” the statement concluded.
