NANS Urges President Tinubu to Seek External Solutions to Nigeria’s Economic Challenges.

In light of the pressing socio-economic challenges currently facing Nigeria, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider seeking assistance beyond his administration and political party. This appeal comes as the nation grapples with escalating economic hardship, particularly concerning widespread hunger.
During a recent statement in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Abdul-Yekinn Odunayo, the Clerk of the Senate at NANS headquarters, emphasized the severity of the situation, which he described as “strangulating citizens.” He highlighted that the ongoing economic crisis has significantly impacted students across the country, who are increasingly dissatisfied with the inadequate food aid being distributed as palliatives by the government.
Odunayo urged President Tinubu to broaden his search for solutions, suggesting that he should not hesitate to consult with experts from opposition parties. He stated, “Nothing is stopping Mr. President from consulting the eggheads in the opposition parties for solutions to the harsh and suffocating economic situation in Nigeria.” This sentiment reflects a growing frustration among Nigerians, particularly students, who are experiencing the brunt of the economic downturn.
The NANS representative articulated the need for a collaborative approach, asserting that capable hands should be engaged regardless of political affiliation. He remarked, “If all hands must be on the deck to move Nigeria forward, President Tinubu must find capable hands beyond party affiliation and engage them for the benefit, development, growth, and economic prosperity of Nigeria and Nigerians.”
In conclusion, the NANS appeal underscores the urgency for the Tinubu administration to adopt a more inclusive strategy in addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges, as the nation awaits effective solutions to alleviate the suffering of its citizens.

Case Dismissed: Federal Charges Against Mayor Adams Dropped.

On Wednesday, District Court Judge Dale Ho dismissed, with prejudice, the federal criminal case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. This action effectively terminates the possibility of the Department of Justice (DOJ) resurrecting the five-count indictment against the Democrat in the US District Court in Manhattan.
The dismissal follows a controversial request by the Trump administration, nearly two months prior, to drop the corruption charges. The DOJ argued that prosecution would impede Mayor Adams’ ability to govern New York City and collaborate with the administration’s immigration enforcement policies.
The request prompted significant internal dissent, culminating in the resignation of seven federal prosecutors, including the acting Manhattan US attorney. Their departure underscores the contentious nature of the decision to seek dismissal and the ethical questions it raised within the Department. The “with prejudice” ruling solidifies the finality of this complex and closely watched legal battle.

This trend, further exemplified by Banky W’s move to the United States for educational pursuits last year, highlights concerns regarding current socio-economic conditions within Nigeria. The reasons behind these decisions are multifaceted and warrant further observation as more prominent figures weigh similar options.
