Oluwatosin Ajibade, the Afrobeats artist and entrepreneur known widely as Mr Eazi, has recently unveiled his future aspirations, venturing beyond the realms of music and business into the sphere of politics. In a video broadcast via Snapchat, the ‘Skin Tight’ singer, who recently celebrated his marriage to Temi Otedola, daughter of prominent businessman Femi Otedola, declared his intention to pursue the presidency of an African nation in the coming years.
Mr Eazi stated that this ambition has been under consideration for some time. He expressed his desire to serve as a leader who is “not looking for money and power but forward-thinking, young, active and can move your country better,” positioning himself as a potential candidate for those seeking a fresh and dynamic approach to governance. “So, I’m officially putting myself forward for the presidency,” he announced.
While Nigerian by birth, Mr Eazi maintains strong ties to Ghana, where he pursued his education and initiated his burgeoning music career. He has acknowledged the significant influence of Ghanaian culture on his musical style, which he has termed “Banku music.” This connection to both Nigeria and Ghana could potentially play a role in shaping his political platform and appeal.
Mr. Eazi’s announcement aligns with a growing trend of Nigerian celebrities entering the political arena, both in elected and appointed roles. Actress Eniola Badmus, for instance, has publicly stated her ambition to become a senator in 2025. Furthermore, former Senator Ben Bruce has previously suggested that singer Davido may one day become the Governor of Osun State.
