Quick Summary:
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde dismisses impeachment speculation, inaugurates committees for 25-Year Tourism Master Plan and International Tourism Summit 2026.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reacted to rumours of an impeachment plot against him, describing the speculation as unfounded.

Reports had circulated on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, alleging that former Oyo State First Lady, Florence Ajimobi, met with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin, to discuss plans to remove the governor.

Speaking on Thursday during the inauguration of key committees for the state’s long-term tourism development, Makinde dismissed the rumours with humour.

Focus On Tourism Development

Governor Makinde used the occasion to inaugurate two major committees:

  • The Organising Committee for the International Tourism Summit Oyo State 2026 (#ITSOyoState2026), scheduled for May 12–14, 2026.
  • The 25-Year Tourism Master Plan Committee, tasked with developing a comprehensive roadmap to guide tourism investment and policy in the state.

He explained that the master plan would shape decisions, attract investments, and outlive successive administrations, ensuring continuity in Oyo State’s tourism development agenda.

Commitment To Long-Term Growth

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustainable development, noting that tourism remains a key pillar of Oyo State’s economic diversification strategy.

He emphasised that the newly inaugurated committees would play a strategic role in positioning the state as a leading tourism destination in Nigeria and West Africa.
