Afrobeat artist Made Kuti, grandson of the iconic Fela Kuti, has addressed the recent wave of criticism surrounding his marriage to Inedoye Onyenso. The couple, who wed in a civil ceremony in Lagos in November 2023, have faced disparaging remarks rooted in ethnic prejudice.

In response to accusations of “mixing blood” and direct insults, Kuti firmly rejected the notion of ethnic superiority. He stated that such beliefs reflect a “slave mentality” and urged critics to educate themselves on the Pan-Africanist ideals championed by figures like his great-grandmother Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, his grandfather Fela Kuti, Kwame Nkrumah, and Thomas Sankara. Kuti emphasized the importance of unity for Africa’s progress, advocating for a perspective that transcends ethnic divisions. His statement serves as a powerful reminder of the need to combat prejudice and embrace inclusivity.
