In anticipation of the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency re-run election and the Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency by-election, the Kano State Police Command has announced a restriction on movement in four local government areas. The restrictions will be in effect from midnight on Friday, August 16, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17.
The affected local government areas are Bagwai, Shanono, Ghari, and Tsanyawa, according to a statement released by Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna. The ban encompasses all vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles, with exceptions granted only to essential services, including ambulances, fire trucks, vehicles belonging to electoral officials, and accredited observers.
The police command stated that these measures are designed to ensure a peaceful and transparent electoral process. CP Ibrahim Bakori, leading the police force in collaboration with other security agencies, has implemented security protocols for a smooth and incident-free election. Residents are urged to comply with the directives.
SP Haruna clarified that only eligible voters will be permitted access to polling units. Furthermore, only party agents accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be authorized to operate at the polling venues.
The police have issued stern warnings against carrying weapons, displaying party symbols, or loitering around polling stations. Local security outfits, such as vigilantes and KAROTA personnel, are also prohibited from the election areas.
The Command has reassured residents of their commitment to providing adequate security and has appealed for public cooperation to ensure a smooth and incident-free election in the affected communities.
