Joeboy Responds to Criticism of His Music.
In recent weeks, Nigerian singer Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, widely known as Joeboy, has found himself at the center of criticism on social media, with some detractors labeling his music as “mid.” In a candid appearance on the ‘Backstage Banter’ podcast, Joeboy addressed these allegations and firmly rejected the notion that his work is unremarkable.
Joeboy asserted that his accomplishments at a young age, combined with his ability to maintain a grounded perspective, exemplify anything but mediocrity. “There is nothing ‘mid’ about my existence,” he stated emphatically. He further elaborated that the motivations behind the negative comments often stem from the personal dissatisfaction of the critics. “If you’re genuinely happy with your life, you would not pick up your phone and start attacking somebody,” he observed.
The artist challenged the validity of the term “mid,” suggesting that it has become a superficial label devoid of substantial meaning. Joeboy’s response serves as a reminder of the resilience required to navigate public scrutiny, particularly in the realm of the arts. Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has reportedly gifted fellow artist Portable N20 million following the latter’s victory over Speed Darlington in a recent celebrity boxing match. The “Chaos in the Rings” event saw Portable declared the winner after Speed Darlington sustained an arm injury during the first round and subsequently forfeited the second.
Portable announced the substantial gift on his Instagram story, directly attributing it to Burna Boy, who has publicly feuded with Speed Darlington in the past. The gesture suggests a pointed celebration of Portable’s triumph and underscores the ongoing rivalry within the Nigerian music scene.
Nigerian musician Portable emerged victorious in the highly anticipated celebrity boxing match against Speed Darlington, held Saturday night at the Balmoral Events Centre in Lagos. The event, dubbed ‘Chaos in the Rings,’ saw an abrupt conclusion when Speed Darlington was unable to continue after sustaining a broken arm during the first round.
The match, fueled by a prior dispute over a N500,000 performance fee offered to Portable by Darlington, ended in Portable’s favor as his opponent failed to appear for the second round. This win marks Portable’s second celebrity boxing victory, following his previous triumph against actor Charles Okocha four months prior.
