The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father on fire in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, said investigations revealed that the suspect poured a suspected petroleum substance on the victim before setting him ablaze.

The incident occurred on April 1, 2026, at about 6:30 a.m. in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town.

Victim Dies From Injuries

According to the police, officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call from one Lokon Malamai.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died while receiving treatment.

Adam confirmed that Kabiru Nuhu has been taken into custody and will be charged with patricide. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation and prosecution.

Police Condemn Act, Urge Calm

Commissioner of Police Haruna Yahaya condemned the act and called for calm, assuring that justice will be served.

He urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and to report early signs of domestic violence to security agencies.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and order across Jigawa State.
