Reports indicate a devastating incident occurred on Saturday along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road. An Improvised Explosive Device (IED), allegedly planted by Boko Haram terrorists, detonated as a military-escorted convoy transporting passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri traversed the route.

Tragically, at least seven commuters lost their lives in the explosion, and an unspecified number sustained injuries. The injured are currently receiving medical treatment in Maiduguri.

The Maiduguri-Damboa Road, a vital artery connecting Maiduguri to several southern Borno local government areas, has been a known area of Boko Haram activity for over a decade. Though reopened under military escort, this recent attack underscores the persistent security challenges in the region and the ongoing threat posed by IEDs. Investigations are likely underway to determine the specifics of the attack and prevent future occurrences.
