Governor Uba Sani Refutes NLC Claims on Minimum Wage Implementation in Kaduna State.

In a recent statement, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State firmly rejected allegations made by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kaduna State Chapter, regarding the non-implementation of the national minimum wage. The NLC, in a statement dated November 28, 2024, accused the state government of failing to uphold the mandated minimum wage of 72,000 Naira.
However, Malam Ibraheem Musa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, clarified that Kaduna State has indeed complied with the national minimum wage directive. He highlighted that all civil servants in the state received a gross salary of 72,000 Naira in November, countering the NLC’s assertions.
Musa emphasized that the NLC’s claims misrepresent the state’s financial obligations and the complexities surrounding salary adjustments. He noted that while the NLC focuses on consequential adjustments—often misconstrued as salary increments—it is vital to recognize the distinction between these adjustments and the minimum wage, which has been duly paid.
Furthermore, the Chief Press Secretary outlined the fiscal challenges faced by the Kaduna State Government, stating that its monthly revenue has dwindled due to extensive deductions for loan repayments and increasing wage bills. With an average monthly revenue of approximately 12 billion Naira, the state is left with only 2 billion Naira for essential services after fulfilling salary obligations, including pensions.
Musa urged the NLC to exercise patience regarding consequential adjustments, advocating for a balanced approach that considers the broader welfare of the population. Highlighting the state’s commitment to supporting its civil servants, he reminded that the government has initiated projects, such as free transportation for civil servants, to alleviate the current economic pressures.
Governor Uba Sani remains committed to ensuring that the interests of both the workforce and the broader citizenry are safeguarded, as the government navigates the complexities of fiscal management in a challenging economic landscape.

Case Dismissed: Federal Charges Against Mayor Adams Dropped.

On Wednesday, District Court Judge Dale Ho dismissed, with prejudice, the federal criminal case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. This action effectively terminates the possibility of the Department of Justice (DOJ) resurrecting the five-count indictment against the Democrat in the US District Court in Manhattan.
The dismissal follows a controversial request by the Trump administration, nearly two months prior, to drop the corruption charges. The DOJ argued that prosecution would impede Mayor Adams’ ability to govern New York City and collaborate with the administration’s immigration enforcement policies.
The request prompted significant internal dissent, culminating in the resignation of seven federal prosecutors, including the acting Manhattan US attorney. Their departure underscores the contentious nature of the decision to seek dismissal and the ethical questions it raised within the Department. The “with prejudice” ruling solidifies the finality of this complex and closely watched legal battle.
