Governor Makinde Urges Preservation of Nigerian Culture at Egungun Festival.
Ibadan, Oyo State – Governor Seyi Makinde has implored Nigerians to actively safeguard their cultural heritage from extinction. The call was made at the grand finale of the 2025 World Egungun Festival, held Thursday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan.
Represented by Deputy Governor Barrister Adebayo Lawal, Governor Makinde emphasized his administration’s commitment to supporting cultural expansion, highlighting its potential to bolster cultural tourism and generate revenue for the state’s economy. He noted the administration’s prioritization of culture and tourism initiatives.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including representatives from the Olubadan of Ibadanland and the Osun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism. Governor Makinde underscored the importance of cultural preservation, expressing satisfaction at the diverse age representation at the festival, signalling a continued interest in tradition amongst younger generations.
