Quick Summary:
Gara-Gombe cautions NFF against renewing Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle’s contract, calls salary demands unrealistic.

Former Gombe State Football Association chairman, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, has voiced strong opposition to the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) reported plan to renew the contract of Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle.

Chelle, who currently earns about $50,000 monthly, has less than a year remaining on his existing deal. Reports indicate that he has presented 19 demands, including a salary increase to $130,000 per month, as conditions for extending his tenure.

“Super Eagles Are Too Big for Him”

Reacting to the development, Gara-Gombe described the potential renewal as a mistake and accused Chelle of attempting to leverage his position after gaining international exposure through the Super Eagles.

He further argued that Nigeria’s football pedigree and player quality far outweigh Chelle’s coaching credentials.

Dismisses Marseille Link, Labels Demands Unrealistic

Gara-Gombe also dismissed reports linking Chelle to Olympique Marseille, describing them as fabricated stories aimed at strengthening the coach’s bargaining power.

The former FA chairman urged the NFF to reconsider its stance and prioritize performance and value over inflated financial demands.
