Quick Summary:
Ex-PRTT chairman Abdulrasheed Maina collapses near his Abuja office, reportedly due to complications from an untreated knee injury.

Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), reportedly collapsed on Tuesday near his office in Abuja.

The incident was confirmed by his media aide, Emmanuel Nweke, who said Maina lost consciousness after falling on the staircase while attempting to enter the office premises.

According to Nweke, the fall was linked to complications from a long-standing knee injury that had not been treated.

Medical Response and Current Condition

Nweke explained that medical personnel at the scene immediately administered first aid before Maina was transported to a private hospital in Abuja for further treatment.

Following a preliminary medical assessment, one of the attending doctors reportedly recommended an air ambulance evacuation if his condition fails to stabilize soon.

The aide added that Maina’s family and medical team are closely monitoring his progress, appealing to the public for prayers, understanding, and privacy during this period.

Background

Maina was recently released from the Kuje Correctional Centre after serving part of his jail sentence for pension-related fraud.

In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja found him guilty of money laundering involving N2 billion and sentenced him to prison.

His collapse comes just months after regaining freedom, marking another chapter in the former pension boss’s turbulent public life.
