EFCC Presents Case Against Former Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has informed the Federal High Court in Abuja of its intention to call upon 28 additional witnesses in the ongoing money laundering trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello. This disclosure was made during Thursday’s proceedings concerning the 19-count charge leveled against the ex-governor.
Lead prosecution counsel, Prof. Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, indicated that ten of these witnesses would be subpoenaed to testify and present documentary evidence. The prosecution alleges that Mr. Bello illicitly transferred funds, originating from Kogi State treasury, to the American International School, Abuja, under the guise of pre-paying tuition for his children. A key witness, Mr. Nicholas Ojehomon, an Internal Auditor at the school, testified but conceded under cross-examination that no direct payments from the Kogi State treasury were received by the school.
The court, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, has adjourned the case to Friday for further cross-examination of Mr. Ojehomon. The proceedings remain a focal point as the EFCC seeks to substantiate its allegations against the former governor.
Actor Michael Pitt, known for his performances in productions such as Boardwalk Empire, Dawson’s Creek, and Reptile, has been arrested in New York City on multiple charges. Court documents indicate that the arrest occurred on May 2nd in Brooklyn.
The charges against Mr. Pitt include two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, assault with a blunt object, third-degree sodomy, and second-degree strangulation. Mr. Pitt has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Bail was set at $100,000, which he has reportedly posted.
