Content Creator Arrested for False Kidnapping Claim

The Edo State Police Command has arrested 24-year-old content creator Osarobo Omoyemen, popularly known as “Madam Oil Rice,” for allegedly faking her own abduction in a bid to attract more followers to her TikTok page.

Omoyemen had posted a viral video claiming she was kidnapped along Upper Sakponba Road in Benin City and later extorted by police officers after her supposed rescue.

However, following an investigation, authorities discovered that the entire story was fabricated.

Police Investigation and Confession

According to the police, the investigation revealed inconsistencies in Omoyemen’s account, prompting further questioning. During interrogation, she confessed to staging the incident purely for social media engagement.

Police also uncovered that she had deleted an earlier video in which an accomplice could be heard urging viewers to follow her page, confirming the act was premeditated.

Legal Action and Search for Accomplices

The Edo State Police Command has charged Omoyemen to court for public mischief and false information, offences that carry serious legal consequences under Nigerian law.

Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend her accomplices, who allegedly helped plan and record the staged abduction.

The police warned against the misuse of social media for attention-seeking or misinformation, stressing that such acts undermine public trust and waste critical security resources.
