British-Nigerian Designer Liz Sanya Attempts Guinness World Record for Largest Sandal

In a remarkable feat of creativity and determination, British-Nigerian shoe designer Liz Sanya has successfully completed her attempt to set a Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest sandal. Measuring an impressive 3.156 meters (10 feet 4.2 inches) in width and 8.147 meters (26 feet 8.8 inches) in length, Sanya’s massive pink clog challenges the previous record held by a group of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo, which measured 7.45 meters (24 feet 5.31 inches) long and 3.09 meters (10 feet 1.65 inches) wide.
Sanya embarked on this ambitious project on January 2, 2025, following confirmation from GWR, and completed the sandal within a remarkable 72-hour timeframe, concluding her efforts on January 4. The event took place at Pixel Park in Lekki, Lagos, and garnered significant attention, attracting numerous celebrities, including Pheelz, Mayorkun, Korty EO, and P.Prime.
Reflecting on her journey, Sanya expressed profound gratitude to her supporters, emphasizing her deep connection to Nigeria. “I’ll never be able to put into words what any of this means to me. None of this has been possible without the support and compassion of the people who believe in my vision,” she stated. Born in Ibadan and inspired by the vibrant culture of Lagos, Sanya felt it was only fitting to return to her roots for this momentous occasion.
As the world awaits official confirmation from Guinness World Records, Sanya’s achievement stands as a testament to her innovative spirit and dedication to her craft.

Skales claims Nigeria has a lower crime rate than the UK because of jungle justice.

Nigerian Afrobeats artist, Skales, recently sparked debate with his comments regarding crime rates in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. In an interview on “Just Vibes,” Skales posited that the perceived lower crime rate in Nigeria is attributable to the fear of extrajudicial punishment. He stated that potential criminals in Nigeria are deterred by the possibility of severe, unsanctioned retribution, a consequence he believes criminals in the UK are less likely to face.
While acknowledging the deterrent effect, Skales explicitly stated he does not support or encourage “jungle justice” due to its inherently extrajudicial nature.
Furthermore, Skales touched upon the definition of Afrobeats, suggesting it functions more as an umbrella term encompassing diverse musical styles rather than a rigidly defined genre. This assertion echoes ongoing discussions within the music industry regarding the boundaries and evolution of the Afrobeats sound.
