BIPC Launches Eco-Friendly Taxi Service in Benue State

The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) has initiated a modern and sustainable transportation solution with the introduction of its “Green Wheels” taxi service. The company recently received a delivery of 20 electric and solar-powered vehicles, marking the commencement of operations across Makurdi, Gboko, and Otukpo.
BIPC Managing Director Raymond Asemakaha stated the initiative aims to reduce transportation costs, offer improved value for residents, and generate employment opportunities. The long-term objective is to expand the fleet to 100 electric vehicles.
The Green Wheels taxis are equipped with zero-emission technology, geofencing capabilities for location tracking, and integrated CCTV for enhanced passenger security. A dedicated assembling and charging plant will be established at the BIPC Mergemax station to facilitate maintenance. A mobile application is also under development to streamline ride booking.
Mr. Asemakaha highlighted the project as a strategic intervention by the state government to alleviate the financial burden of rising transport costs on commuters. This initiative underscores Benue State’s commitment to sustainable mobility and a better quality of life for its citizens.
