The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has defended the Senate and House of Representatives over the passage of the Electoral Amendment Act, describing their actions as pragmatic and realistic.

Morka made the remarks on Monday during an interview on The Morning Brief on Channels Television, while reacting to the recent signing of the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 by President Bola Tinubu.

President Tinubu signed the bill into law less than 24 hours after its passage by the National Assembly, a move that has sparked nationwide debate and criticism over the speed of the process.

“Lawmakers Were Realistic About Nigeria’s Realities”

Morka argued that the legislators acted responsibly, taking into account the technological and infrastructural limitations across the country.

He emphasized that the APC is not the only party represented in the National Assembly, noting that the final outcome of the bill reflected the collective will of all lawmakers, not just the ruling party.

Connectivity Challenges and Electronic Transmission

Speaking from Asaba, Delta State, Morka highlighted the uneven state of network connectivity across Nigeria as a major factor influencing the lawmakers’ decision.

He noted that while real-time electronic transmission of election results remains an ideal goal, technical realities must be acknowledged.
