Quick Summary:
NNPCL and major filling stations maintain current pump prices despite Dangote Refinery’s N100 increase to ₦1,175 per litre.
Retail outlets of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other major filling stations in Abuja have yet to adjust their fuel pump prices, nearly 24 hours after Dangote Refinery announced a ₦100 increment in its petrol price.
On Friday, the 650,000-barrel-per-day Dangote Refinery raised its pump price to ₦1,175 per litre, a move that typically triggers nationwide retail price adjustments.
However, checks across the capital on Saturday morning showed that NNPCL stations still sold petrol at ₦1,261 per litre, with no immediate change in pricing.
Price Variations Across Major Outlets
Other major marketers, including AA Rano, Ranoil, and NIPCO, maintained prices between ₦1,230 and ₦1,330 per litre across parts of Abuja and its environs.
Meanwhile, Optima Filling Station, located near the EFCC headquarters, slightly increased its price by ₦50, moving from ₦1,220 to ₦1,270 per litre.
As of the time of reporting, MRS stations—linked to Dangote Refinery’s supply network—had not dispensed petrol since Friday, raising speculation about possible supply adjustments.
Crude Oil Price Surge Triggers Refinery Adjustment
The Dangote Refinery’s price hike followed a global crude oil price surge that pushed Brent crude above $100 per barrel on Friday.
In response to the spike, the refinery adjusted its domestic fuel price, citing market realities and rising input costs.
Despite the refinery’s move, retail outlets in Abuja appear to be holding off on immediate adjustments, possibly awaiting further directives or supply updates from distributors.
