on

The Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) at Yobe State University, Damaturu, has announced an important community-based research project aimed at tackling the increasing prevalence of kidney disease in Yobe State. This initiative is specifically focused on the Bade Local Government Area, which has been disproportionately affected by this pressing health issue.

In a statement released on Monday, BioRTC outlined its commitment to generating evidence-based solutions that will enhance healthcare outcomes for individuals suffering from kidney ailments. The project will be supported by a diverse team of professionals, including nephrologists, cardiologists, renal care nurses, and medical laboratory scientists. Such a multidisciplinary approach aims to investigate the genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that contribute to kidney disease in the region.

Notably, BioRTC acknowledges the crucial support from international partners from the UK, USA, and Ghana, as well as numerous collaborators within Nigeria. This collaboration is expected to significantly bolster the research efforts and facilitate the development of effective strategies for combating kidney-related health issues.

The launch of this research project marks a pivotal moment in the fight against the rising tide of kidney failure and its associated complications in Yobe State. Stakeholders view this initiative as a significant step toward achieving lasting solutions and reducing mortality rates linked to kidney disease, particularly within the vulnerable populations of Bade Local Government Area and parts of Yobe North.

As BioRTC embarks on this endeavor, the community and public health advocates alike remain hopeful for meaningful advancements in managing kidney health and improving the overall well-being of the affected populations.
