Katsina State Government Supports Victims of Banditry with Financial Assistance.
In a noteworthy response to the persistent challenges posed by banditry, the Katsina State government has allocated over N50 million to assist victims in the Matazu, Kankia, and Batsari local government areas. This initiative, presented by Saidu Ibrahim Danja, the Senior Special Assistant on Victims of Banditry and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), aims to provide crucial support to those affected by recent attacks.
Danja emphasized that the funds are intended as support rather than compensation, underlining the government’s commitment to easing the hardships faced by victims. The disbursement was made possible under the directive of Governor Dikko Umar Radda, who ordered an assessment of the impact on individuals in the designated areas.
The administration of Governor Radda has demonstrated a consistent effort over the past two years to assist families who have endured losses due to banditry, reaffirming its dedication to those in need. In light of these efforts, Danja urged the community to actively pray for an end to insecurity and to aid security agencies by sharing information regarding criminal activities.
Musa Maikudi, the Chairman of Kankia Local Government, echoed these sentiments by urging beneficiaries to utilize the funds judiciously. He commended the state government for its proactive measures aimed at mitigating the effects of insecurity on local communities.
This financial disbursement reflects the Katsina State government’s ongoing commitment to supporting victims of banditry and highlights the necessity for communal cooperation in addressing the security challenges faced by the region.

Governor Mohammed has set an 8-week deadline to resolve the crisis at Bauchi University.
In a decisive move aimed at resolving ongoing disruptions at Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has directed the recently inaugurated Visitation Panel to propose solutions within an eight-week timeframe. This action comes in response to the enduring unrest involving the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), triggered by several unresolved issues.
The panel is tasked with a comprehensive mandate: addressing the root causes of the ongoing strike, conducting a review of the university’s financial operations, and formulating strategies for effective management that promotes harmony within the institution. During the inauguration, Governor Mohammed emphasized the pivotal role of education in fostering meaningful development and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the educational sector.
Despite previous interventions, the governor urged the committee to devise lasting solutions to the disputes between ASUU, the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and university management. The chairperson of the panel, Prof. Gambo Laraba, expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity and pledged to deliver a thorough report that would guide necessary reforms.
It is noteworthy that ASUU at SAZU had suspended an indefinite strike, which primarily stemmed from grievances over the non-implementation of pension schemes, unpaid allowances, and concerns regarding the appointment of a polytechnic graduate as bursar, contrary to the university’s founding statutes. This suspension followed the governor’s personal engagement with the union in December 2024, underscoring his active role in mediating the ongoing crisis.
As the panel embarks on its important work, the hope is that its findings will pave the way for a more stable and productive academic environment at Sa’adu Zungur University.

British-Nigerian Designer Liz Sanya Attempts Guinness World Record for Largest Sandal
In a remarkable feat of creativity and determination, British-Nigerian shoe designer Liz Sanya has successfully completed her attempt to set a Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest sandal. Measuring an impressive 3.156 meters (10 feet 4.2 inches) in width and 8.147 meters (26 feet 8.8 inches) in length, Sanya’s massive pink clog challenges the previous record held by a group of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo, which measured 7.45 meters (24 feet 5.31 inches) long and 3.09 meters (10 feet 1.65 inches) wide.
Sanya embarked on this ambitious project on January 2, 2025, following confirmation from GWR, and completed the sandal within a remarkable 72-hour timeframe, concluding her efforts on January 4. Reflecting on her journey, Sanya expressed profound gratitude to her supporters, emphasizing her deep connection to Nigeria. “I’ll never be able to put into words what any of this means to me. None of this has been possible without the support and compassion of the people who believe in my vision,” she stated. Born in Ibadan and inspired by the vibrant culture of Lagos, Sanya felt it was only fitting to return to her roots for this momentous occasion.
As the world awaits official confirmation from Guinness World Records, Sanya’s achievement stands as a testament to her innovative spirit and dedication to her craft.

A police officer converts to Islam two years after turning down a $200,000 bribe.
In a momentous occasion, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Amah, who recently embraced Islam, received royal blessings from Emir Muhammad Sanusi. The officer, now known as Muhammad, visited the emir’s palace accompanied by friends and well-wishers, marking a significant milestone in his spiritual journey.
ACP Amah is widely recognized for his unwavering integrity, notably rejecting a $200,000 bribe from an armed robbery suspect involved in a theft exceeding N300,000,000 from a Bureau De Change operator. This act of moral fortitude has solidified his reputation as an incorruptible law enforcement officer.
During the audience, Emir Sanusi expressed his delight and encouraged ACP Muhammad to pursue Islamic knowledge diligently. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the core tenets of Islam, which include the five daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, performing the pilgrimage to Makkah, and fulfilling the obligation of Zakkat. Furthermore, the emir urged the officer to maintain his exemplary character, uphold his integrity, and honor his parents and close relations.
Before his conversion, Amah was already a respected figure in the police force, particularly during his tenure as the Divisional Police Officer at Bompai Police Station, where he notably constructed a mosque. His commitment to ethical policing earned him a promotion to Assistant Commissioner of Police by the Police Service Commission (PSC) and recognition with the prestigious Public Service Integrity Award from former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022.
Currently serving as the Officer in Charge of a Mobile Police Squadron in Lagos State, ACP Muhammad Amah continues to exemplify the values of integrity and service, inspiring both his colleagues and the community at large.
