According to the commissioner, intelligence reports revealed that a notorious bandit leader, Mohammadu Fulani, had mobilised fighters and was advancing toward strategic bridges in the area.
A joint security team, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kankia, intercepted the group and engaged them in a fierce gun battle.
He added that the swift response was made possible through credible intelligence provided by local residents.
Retaliatory Attack On Gwalgoro Village
Despite the setback, the attackers regrouped and launched a fresh assault around midday on Gwalgoro Village in Gyaza/Kunduru Ward, where 11 civilians were killed in what authorities described as a retaliatory strike.
Dr. Mu’azu condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly act of terror.”
Government Urges Vigilance
The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to share timely information with security agencies to prevent further attacks.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening security operations across vulnerable communities and ensuring that bandit networks are dismantled.
The latest incident underscores the persistent insecurity challenges in parts of Katsina State, despite ongoing joint military and police operations aimed at restoring peace in the region.
