Ijumu and Kabba-Bunu Local Government Councils in Kogi State have jointly ordered the immediate closure of the Zango Cattle Markets in Iyara (Ijumu LGA) and Odolu (Kabba-Bunu LGA). This decision, announced in Lokoja, follows escalating security threats and alleged exploitation of the markets by criminal elements, including kidnappers and bandits.

The move aligns with Governor Ahmed Ododo’s directive to bolster security within the state. Alhaji Haruna Ibrahim, Chairman of Ijumu LGA, cited intelligence reports indicating the Iyara market’s use as a hub for criminal activity, prompting its closure until further notice.

Dare Zacchaeus, Chairman of Kabba-Bunu LGA, attributed the shutdown of the Odolu market to persistent bandit and kidnapping attacks. He further cautioned displaced herdsmen from Iyara against relocating to Kabba-Bunu, warning of legal repercussions.

Law enforcement agencies have been mobilized to enforce the closure and prevent any security breach. Local authorities have emphasized their commitment to the safety of residents and travelers, vowing to prosecute anyone obstructing government efforts to maintain peace and order.
