Wike declares that Atiku will not be able to obtain the presidential ticket for the PDP in 2027.
In a recent media engagement held in his Abuja office, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), unequivocally stated that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will not secure the party’s nomination for the 2027 elections. Wike’s comments come in response to Atiku’s assertions regarding his economic blueprint, which he claims would better serve Nigerians than the current administration’s policies.
Wike pointed out that Atiku had previously presented his economic strategies to the Nigerian electorate, who ultimately rejected his proposals during the last election cycle. He emphasized, “Did Nigerians choose him? He is lobbying for another chance, but the chance will not be there.” Wike’s remarks suggest a firm belief that the party should not rely on a single individual for leadership continuity.
Drawing an analogy to American politics, Wike noted that the dynamics of political support can shift, referencing the former President Donald Trump’s influence within the Republican Party despite previous criticisms. He argued that effective political leadership requires inclusivity and a willingness to adapt, rather than sidelining influential figures.
Wike’s statements reflect an ongoing internal discourse within the PDP regarding its future leadership and electoral strategy, as the party navigates the complexities of Nigerian politics in the lead-up to the next presidential election.
